The central section of the Los Angeles Police Department is looking for additional victims of what they call “serial robbery suspects.”
Investigators issued a statement Friday after detectives arrested 20-year-old Los Angeles King Richard Nye McDowell III, saying they believed McDowell was “a person who targeted an elderly person who worked for himself in a retail facility.”
The suspect has been accused of having ties to seven robbers over three months.
On January 27, 2025, a robbery occurred in a business in the 900 block of South Santee Street. The robber allegedly pushed the 70-year-old store clerk into the closet and placed him in a chokehold while armed before fleeing with store cash.
A month later, on February 20, 2025, another old clerk, this time beaten in ’72, choked and stolen in the 1100 block of South Los Angeles Street.
Similar incidents were reported on March 7th and March 9th in the 1500 block of South Los Angeles Street and the 1100 block of South Los Angeles Street. Those victims were 49 and 51 years old.
Three unspecified robbery reports with similar explanations are also recorded in the memo.
McDowell’s bail was set at $250,000.
