Sparks and smoking smoked as a large tree fell on a live power line in the Beverly Crest area on Friday afternoon, waiting for firefighters to rule out the fallen wire.
The tree collapsed near the home in the 2600 block of Bowmont Drive around 1:15pm, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Sky5’s Gil Leyvas had a small explosion as the KTLA helicopter approached the scene, with a small puff of white smoke, and occasional flickering of flames as the downed wires energized and ignited the wet vegetation.

Firefighters were forced to wait for the Los Angeles Water and Power Power Department to derail the wires before the cleanup began.
The tree fell in the aftermath of a storm that brought significant measurable rainfall to the Los Angeles area. That same rainy weather prevented fire from growing or moving forward across the hillside.
“For now, our biggest danger is a potentially exposed home, but fortunately it’s raining and the power lines are far from home,” LafdCapt. Chipper Cervantes said.
