Authorities say the man was arrested shortly after the release of a video that allegedly showed the injured cat pulling out of a garbage bag and throwing it into a trash can in Orange County.
According to a news release from the city of Viejo in Mission, the cat was left there for 15 hours and was discovered just minutes before the trash can was scheduled to be empty.
The city shared surveillance camera footage from Wednesday’s incident. A few hours later, a woman came forward to identify the animals as cats, booboo and males as roommates.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrested the day later on suspicion of felony animal cruelty, the city said. As of Thursday, Boo Boo had remained at the veterinary hospital and was being treated for a major injury.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
Brynn Lavison, director of Mission Viejo Animal Services, said he was deeply grateful for the sheriff’s department’s support and was moved by the public’s concerns about Booboo’s welfare.
“Many of you have donated to her care. Others have asked about her adoption status, and most have expressed a bitters about animal abuse,” she said in a statement. “We are proud to be part of a pet-loving community that really cares about the animals that share our lives.”
According to Mission Viejo officials, the cat was left in a trash can near the 25,000 block of Cabot Road in Laguna Hills around 7:20pm on Monday.
On Tuesday, City Animal Services received a report on the injured cat and took it to the veterinary hospital for evaluation and treatment. Authorities vowed to “ensure Boo Boo is healthy” and “eventually we will reunite with our beloved owner.”
