When they are searching for answers as to why the bald eagle chick went missing in Big Bear, experts uncover some internet theories.
Popular Mountain Hakut Eagle couple Jackie and Shadow welcomed three “Eagle” last week. However, the young Eagles endured a massive blizzard early in their lives, which became a challenge for friends at Big Bear Valley who run a 24/7 live stream with an eye on majestic birds.
Only two of the young Eagles were found in the nest as one of their parents was feeding them on Friday morning. It sparked concern among fans online and drove some theories.

In a blog post Friday evening, friends at Big Bear Valley dispelled some of these theories and told them to stay with patients who are worried.
According to the organization, recent snowstorms have hindered the full view of the nest. So the third chick may simply not be visible at this time.
“All chicks are likely still in clear space in the nest bowl, which is very large,” reads the post. “Some inaccurate information spreads and needs to be fixed to avoid confusion.”
The popular online theory, according to the organization, is that the shadow stomped the chick on a Thursday afternoon. But that didn’t happen – rather, one chick was resting on the shadow’s feet, temporarily separated from the others, but later returned to the middle of the nest.
Another theory: Jackie accidentally “slapped” the chick when a flying squirrel visited the nest. While Jackie was performing “wingslaps,” the particles that leapt out of the nest were not large enough to turn into chicks, a Big Bear Valley friend claims.
Jackie and Shadow’s third Eaglet continues to work on hatching on March 7th, 2025.
So what happened to the missing Eagle? It may be impossible to convey the snow until it melts from the nest.
“We are nature observers. Things that can’t be controlled happen. We don’t know the whole current situation at the moment.” “Even when our emotions run, drama, worries, assumptions do not change the situation or help anyone. We have the opportunity to observe the miracles of nature in all of that aspect. Approach the people around you with patience, understanding, and sincere kindness.”
