The failed robbery was followed by a flawed vacation for a robber who recently broke into an Upland chain restaurant, authorities say. The group was suspended during the theft. Later, when they were being pursued by police, they ran to a dead end and got stuck with a stolen car, police said.
In a tongue video and statement posted by Highland Police to X, the three can be seen breaking into a home-style kitchen and bakery in Corky near Seventh Avenue and Mountain Avenue around 3:30am Thursday.
Police added “Tricky’s Trighty” to Run-DMC as a soundtrack for security and body camera videos that crushed it with a sledgehammer at the restaurant’s glass patio door and used drills and clover to slurp the safe inside. The safe, which appears to have a hard time moving people in the video, appears to be abandoned when sirens are heard outside.

According to the video’s timestamp, police approached a stolen Black Dodge Challenger parked outside the restaurant about six minutes after the first break-in. After a failed pit operation to secure the car in the parking lot, the robber said he would run away and intentionally attack the police vehicle to escape.
The escape driver, who said he was an adult man from Southgate on robbery probation, drove down the South Lindaway (a dead end) before getting stuck between two parked cars.
Police say several suspects fled on foot. Two people were arrested, and a 16-year-old was arrested by Los Angeles and the driver. The other two ran away. Police did not identify any of them.
The stolen challenger had another plate inside that was connected to another vehicle associated with another robbery, police said.
Corky’s management declined to comment on Sunday when asked about the robbery.
