The discussion of viral towels has finally been answered

For a few days, the internet has placed emphasis on this one question. What are the embroidered stripes on the towel?

Software engineer Nate McGrady posted a question on his previous Twitter X on March 13th.

“What is the purpose of this part of the towel?” he asked his over 32,000 followers in a photo of the gray towel and a photo of a circle and an arrow pointing to the two lines sewn onto the towel. “I’m sure there’s only one thing that will shrink and make it impossible to fold the towel neatly, and you’ll have you buy another towel.”

The post quickly went viral, earning 91 million views, 19,000 retweets and 15,000 responses.

Some took the investigation seriously, while others enjoyed it.

“It’s a face/butt depiction line,” one follower replied clumsy, pointing out the need to separate both body parts within a post-shower routine.

“Racing stripes. It makes them dry faster,” joked another.

Another follower believed that the purpose was to “trouble her” and “be grateful that she was actually drying her hands on the other side of the towel.”

Some noted that it could have something to do with laundry.

“Clothes and clotheslines will improve,” they wrote. “Fold the top edges so that both “sewn” strips lie above each other when hanging on the washing line. The laundry pig gets better this way and doesn’t flip that quickly in the wind. ”

Of the many answers, some are on the right track, and the ones revealing the lines are called Dobby’s borders.

“It is called “dobby border,” and it strengthens the fabric, prevents fraying, adds a decorative touch, and helps fold. The narrow weave makes it less absorbent.

“It’s called Dobby Weave. It maintains the structure and prevents curling. It’s decorative,” another explained.

I found those answers to be correct!

Towel wholesaler Towel Hub gave a detailed explanation in a blog post that concluded the conversation.

“The woven strip, known as the Dobby’s border, prevents fraying, improves absorption and gives the towel a professional refined look,” the site said. “The woven strips on both ends act as reinforcement, securing the edges of the fabric and keeping them free. This small but important feature will make the towel undamaged even after dozens of washes, making it a reliable option for business and home.”

The towel wholesaler explained that woven strips “rely rely on durability to maintain cost efficiency” and “enable smarter purchasing decisions,” especially when purchasing in bulk for hotels, spas, gyms or pools.

“The high quality dobby border ensures that the towel remains in shape and effectiveness even after repeated washing and use.”

Without that boundary, the towel will wear out quickly and are more likely to be elucidated after repeated use.

This problem appears to be left to run through and dry out.
