At a late afternoon press conference, San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dykas identified six-year division veteran Hector Kuevas Jr. as the aide tragically killed in Monday’s high-speed chase crash.

The fatal pursuit began a fatal pursuit that Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., now a San Bernardino resident, did not make concessions in the stolen vehicle and the suspect was not stolen, officials said.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown, but the 36-year-old Deputy Quebus collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Elvado and Seneca roads before 11am.

A woman in a small black sedan caught in the collision was also injured and rushed to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Quebus, who had been assigned to Sheriff’s Victorville Station for the past three years, sadly passed away at the scene.

Aerial images taken by Sky5 show his body covered with an American flag as he prepares to transport his body.

Hector Kuevas Jr., the sheriff’s aide with the San Bernardino County Sheriff, was killed in a chase crash on March 17, 2025. 2025 (KTLA) San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a serious crash crash near Victorville on March 17, 2025.

While the San Bernardino citizens stood on the street in tribute to the fallen deputies, motor vehicles and police cruisers surrounded the medical inspector’s vehicle and formed a procession.

Quebus leaves behind his wife, two children, parents, sisters and siblings.

Daikas said his family and colleagues described him as a man from a dev family and a police officer.

“There is no word to describe this tragedy,” Dikas said at the press event. “Hector was the type of law enforcement officer we all wanted to be, and was a great and epic guardian.”

In the meantime, Turner, who is reportedly holding previous records of escapes and injured in Rialto, is detained and booked on a vehicle manslaughter while drunk, avoids the police while causing serious injuries and death.

Dykas added that they are asking the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office if the 22-year-old will be held without bail.

In a statement released Monday evening, Gov. Gavin Newsom said:

“Jennifer and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Vice Quebus. Our sincere, sadness dol means we head out to his family, friends and colleagues to navigate this unimaginable time.

The governor, who flags the State Capitol and Capitol annex swing space, will fly with half staff in honor of Deputy Quebus.
