The injured woman died in a wrecked van after police towed it, $50 million claims claim

The incident began most of the time when San Diego police investigated a crash in 2023 and suspected drunk drivers were plowed into a parked van.

The driver was arrested, the van was towed and placed under the lock and lock in a local reservoir.

However, police should have investigated further, according to the $50 million claim filed against the city.

Among the parked van was Monica Camelini de Adams, a 65-year-old mother who was homeless and slept in the central row when it was attacked.

It was not about a month later when Towing Yard employees noticed the “stimulating smell” emanating from the 2001 Hondiodyssey.

“In our assessment, she died some time after the shock, and perhaps in the towing garden,” said John Carpenter, the attorney for the carpenter and Zuckerman, who now represents the family of Cameloni de Adams. “Officers and towing truck operators didn’t get any kind of stock or see if there were any living inside.”

The claim, the predecessor of the lawsuit filed by the children of Cameroni de Adams, claims that he was negligent and reckless when officers were unable to see inside the van, and finds that Cameroni de Adams has “a persistent but viable dull force injury from a collision that requires medical attention.”

The collision occurred on November 5th, 2023, just after 1am in the 5000 block of Claremont Drive, San Diego.

A spokesman for the San Diego Police Department and city said he could not comment on the potential lawsuit.

The crash report included in the claim says the crash sent the van forward and collided with another parking vehicle ahead of it. The impact pushed the rear door of the van into the central row, where Cameloni de Adams was reportedly asleep.

Carpenter said it is unclear how or why the officers and tow truck operators failed to find Cameloni de Adams inside the van. Body camera footage of the incident has been requested, but so far it has been denied by the city, he said.

“There’s zero excuse that they haven’t done a rough exam to see if anyone is inside,” Carpenter said.

According to reports of the incident included in the allegations, the van appears to be stirring his words, pointed out by driver Jordan Lopez, who struggled to stand while police were talking to him.

Lopez later pleaded guilty to DUI, causing serious physical injuries.

The two parking vehicles involved in the crash were sailed “to avoid further vandalism,” the report noted, and officers tried to contact the owner, but failed. The report does not state how officers tried to contact the owner, including Cameroni de Adams, the van’s owner.

The report does not say whether officers will look into the vehicle before towing it.

On November 14, 2023, Natalia’s Daniel Cameron Adams filed a report of the missing person to her mother after she sent a message to try and responded, although she wanted a happy birthday the day before.

The Cameroni de Adams was found three weeks later on December 6th, claiming it was “snapped under other items in the center row of the vehicle.”

The autopsy report states that he suffered several injuries, including a rib fracture, a broken spine and a broken arm. Reports say the most likely cause of her injuries was dull force trauma.
