Former Harlem Globetrotter George Bell, an actor and law enforcement officer who held the record for America’s tallest man, passed away at the age of 67.
Bell, known as the “Calm Giant,” was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, and was a staggering 7-foot-8-inch man and appeared in the Guinness World Records in 2007 as America’s tallest man. He then lost the title to Igor Vovkovinsky. Igor Vovkovinsky reclaimed it in 2021, when Vovkovinsky died, according to a TV insider.
For comparison, the highest current NBA player is Zach Edey, standing at 7 feet, 4 inches.
The New York Post reported that Bell had died at a family home in North Carolina, but no date was given.

In the past, Bell played college basketball at Morris Brown College in Georgia and later played alongside the Harlem Globetrotters.
According to TV Insider, Bell played the tall ghost man in FX’s “American Horror Story.” He also performed on AMC’s “Freakshow,” The Short Film ‘Bank Robber, and on the series “Extreme Bodies,” depicting the pituitary giant.
Bell, a former deputy director of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Department, joined the department in 2000. Those who worked there said he would be remembered for his kind and enjoyable personality.
