Authorities said Los Angeles police were surrounded by Chatsworth’s home on Friday.
According to a department spokesperson, LAPD was dispatched to a home in the 20,000 block of Tipico Street at 2:20pm.
When police arrived, the suspect pointed a shotgun above the LAPD helicopter and layed beside the pool in the backyard of the house, a spokesman said. It is unclear whether the shot was fired by a helicopter, he added.
Nearby residents were evacuated and police continued to surround the home until 4:30pm, a spokesman said. The SWAT team is also responding to the incident, he said.
Helicopter video filmed by KTLA-TV showed the suspect lying beside a pool with two apparent shotguns at a nearby table. The suspect breathed, appearing to be making small movements with his head and feet.
According to a KTLA report, the owner of the house does not know who the man is or where the weapon came from.
This is a developing story. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
