Blue City mayor was criticized by local leaders for prioritizing politics over safety

Local leaders and immigration experts have denounced Boston’s Democratic mayor Michelle Wu for prioritizing left-wing politics over safety, saying the mayor has proven that he “continuing to prioritize political agenda over safety for Boston residents, especially women and children.”

Wu, who had previously said that Boston would not cooperate with ice immigration enforcement efforts, gave a raucous “city condition” speech on Wednesday, repeatedly saying, “We will stand with the migrants.”

Addressing immigration directly, Wu said, “You belong here.”

“No one tells Boston how to care for us ourselves, not the king. It’s not the president they think is king. Boston was born of a bully,” she said.

The Democratic mayor blew up after vowing to turn major cities into “safe shelters” for illegal immigration.

However, the take has infuriated local leaders who say that having illegal immigrants from the ice poses a serious threat to local citizens.

“There is no good reason for her to get in the way of this important advancement,” Logan Trupiano, a spokesman for the Massachusetts GOP, told Fox News Digital.

Despite her claims in her speech to speak for all 700,000 Bostonians, Tolpiano noted that “voting consistently shows that the majority of Americans support these efforts.”

“Mayor Wu has to move beyond fear, ice and the false characteristics of federal authorities,” he said, adding that “the city’s sanctuary policy will bring dangerous individuals back into our community and undermine the trust and safety of our people.”

He also pointed to a recent spike in arrests of illegal immigrant child sex predators and other serious offenders in the Boston area.

“Ice has arrested child predators, drug dealers and gun runners. He is responsible for the heinous crimes that threaten public safety,” Tolpiano said. “Given the recent arrests by ICE in Massachusetts and Boston, it’s hard to understand why Mayor Wu continues to oppose the Trump administration’s efforts.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Arthur, a former immigration judge and policy expert at the Center for Immigration Studies, told Fox News Digital that sanctuary policies are at risk not only for citizens but also for immigrant communities.

“The Sanctuary policy actually hurts people in the immigrant community, which is the sanctuary, because police know that they will hand them over to the ice, and they will bring them back on the streets. So they don’t want to move forward. [to report crimes]because they are afraid they will oppose it,” he explained.

“Street police want criminals on the streets,” he continued. “They want to help with the ice. They just don’t have much inference from civil servants to promote these policies.”

“What we created is a sanctuary for criminals,” Arthur said. “Immigration enforcement is the best way to protect not only our communities, but our immigrant community in particular.”

John Featherton, a former Massachusetts immigration shelter director who resident in the Boston area, told Fox News Digital that WU’s policy “prioritizes the political agenda for the safety of Boston residents” and “encourages criminal networks and makes the community even more dangerous.”

He said Wu’s “Trump Mad Syndrome” “has put all of us, especially women and children at risk.”

He pointed to the recent arrests of Guatemala National Sosthenes Perez-Lopez, who was charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a Brighton child, and Bilalkaraigit, an illegal Turkish citizen who was arrested in Burlington after raping a Massachusetts resident.

“Tom Homan can’t get to Boston quickly enough!” he said. “Continuing this path is not only putting our community at risk, nor does it undermine the rule of law.”
