The city of Pasadena has reached an agreement with organizers of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games to host Olympic football at Rose Bowl Stadium.
The men’s and women’s semifinals and final matches will be held in 2028 at a historic venue where Los Angeles will host the game.
LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover says the Rose Bowl will only make history as the second venue in the world to host three separate Olympic events.
The stadium previously held track cycling at a 1932 match and soccer in 1984. More than 100,000 fans participated in the ’84 Game Gold Medal Match, officials said.
“Pasadena is proud to be the venue city that supports host cities in Los Angeles in their 2028 games,” Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo said in a news release. “We look forward to welcoming the world to the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium.”
The agreement outlines the responsibility between the LA28 Organizing Committee and the City of Pasadena, and pending approval for all final venues and sports pending confirmation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Officials said the additional agreement between the city and LA28 is expected to be finalized by October 2027.
Rose Bowl Stadium CEO Jens Weiden called the venue “American Stadium” and said the LA28 Game “raising the entire Southern California community.”
Officials expect tourism during the Olympics next summer will be “slightly” for the Pasadena region.
Other venues in Los Angeles County will be packed with events, with some sports moving into new areas as part of their recent contracts.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Olympic basketball will be moved to Inglewood’s new Int-Two Dome, with swimming being held at Sophie Stadium and crypto.com Arena in downtown LA. Home to the Los Angeles Football Club and Angel City Football Club, BMO Stadium will be its Olympic Lacrosse grounds and flag football debuts at the Olympic Games.
Olympic softball and canoe slalom, the first time they’ve returned to the game since 2020, will be part of the 2028 game, but it will actually take place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The Rose Bowl is one of a handful of stadiums confirmed to host the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, an international competition for professional club teams this summer. Sophie Stadium was, but was not selected for the famous FIFA World Cup that would take place the following year.
