The 40-year-old Ventura County man faces the potential for life in prison for a parole robbery and was committed while wearing a parole ankle monitor, officials said.
According to a news release from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Matthew Ray Scott was convicted of first-degree home robbery in 2007 and 2015, and was released on parole when he was caught in two additional robberies late last year.
In December 2024, Scott entered a house in Shimi Valley, where a female resident accidentally found a 40-year-old child standing in a corridor leading to her bedroom.
Scott fled the house without taking any property after the woman confronted him and asked what he was doing there while on a phone called police.
“The victim testified that he believed Scott chased her into her home through an open garage door,” the prosecutor said.

Just two blocks away, the 40-year-old entered the second residence from the garage where the young family was at home.

“A Simi Valley police officer searched the area and eventually Scott found about three ways ahead,” the release elaborated. “He was wearing a state parole ankle monitor.”
On March 26, ju judges discovered that a previously convicted felon was found guilty of two felony counts of first-degree home robbery, resisted arrest and avoided the peace officer. The ju judge also found it true that Scott committed a violent felony by entering a home where residents were present.
“We are truly grateful to the witnesses who made progress in testimony not only in this case, but in three previous cases dated back to 2007,” said senior Da Craig Gardner, who attempted the case. “Their courage and willingness to participate was essential to ensuring justice and promoting community security.”
Scott’s third felony conviction means he will face the largest life sentence in prison.
It is unclear when his sentence hearing will be scheduled.
