Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena is set to hold a high-profile competition during 2028 Los Angeles Olympic games, officials announced Wednesday.
The iconic venue was chosen to hold at least four matches in the finals and semi-finals of both men’s and women’s soccer. Rose Bowl Stadium CEO Jens Weiden told NBC Los Angeles.
Other soccer games leading up to the final match will take place at other stadiums across the country. These venues were not announced as of Wednesday.
“It will be the only venue in the US with the (Los Angeles) Coliseum to hold three (Olympic) games,” Wyden said.
During the 1932 Olympics, Rose Bowl held track cycling. Then in 1984 the soccer game took place at a landmark in national history.
While the Rose Bowl is known primarily as a college football venue for American sports fans, Wyden said the 88,000 capacity stadiums are ready to host “the best event.”
“We are excited to hold a final or an ingenious final because we have the size of our building and the ability to enjoy tens of thousands of people here,” he said. “These (matches) will be what everyone is on their list, whether you’re a fan or not.”
