Federal prosecutors have launched a compliance review investigation into admissions policies at UCLA and UC Irvine to determine whether universities use diversity, equity and inclusion criteria when selecting students, officials announced Thursday.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi has directed the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to begin an investigation following the U.S. Supreme Court decision that universities are prohibited from using DEIs.

Instead, the university said it was “expanding” its initiative by naming its “community” to comply with the Department of Education’s federal guidance on DEI.
According to the DOJ, elite colleges and universities divide Americans in the name of diversity, discriminate against an entire group of applicants, and prioritize them longer than equality of opportunity.
The DOJ denounced the previous administration for “moving its day ideology forward, “and “didn’t do anything to protect the civil rights of American students” in order to protect the civil rights of American students,” according to a news release.
“The Justice Department will put an end to a shameful system in which someone’s race is more important than their abilities,” deputy Assistant Attorney General Chad Mizzel said.
According to federal prosecutors, the university’s compliance investigation is “just the beginning of the department’s work in eradicating illegal DEIs and protecting legal equality.”
