Vice President J.D. Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Usha are visiting Greenland on Friday. Friday is the island with under 60,000 people that became the center of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.
Vances is visiting the Pituffik Space Force Base. There you will receive a briefing on Arctic security issues and meet with US service members.
“The Vice President and Second Lady are embarking on a historic expedition by visiting Greenland, where the Vice President emphasizes the importance of strengthening artic security in places like Pitafik Space Station,” a senior White House official said. “Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades trying to abuse Greenlanders, treat them like second-class citizens and make the island’s infrastructure fall into devastation. Hope the Vice President highlights these points.”
Usha Vance was originally scheduled to travel to Greenland without the vice president on a cultural trip to watch the dog sled race. But earlier this week, the Vice President chose to participate, and travel was shifted to focus on national security.
Trump said before his Vance trip, “We need Greenland for international safety and security.”

Vance is as great an official travelling north as Pitafik, the White House said.
Vance’s first trip to Paris and Germany sparked waves due to his rigorous lectures in Europe. In Europe, they developed relations with Europe over their ties with some countries, but caused Europe’s own mobilization of defense.
Trump was assigned to take over Greenland from Denmark in his second administration.
“We need Greenland for national and international security,” he told reporters in the Oval Office.

“So I think we’ll go as long as we have to go,” he continued. “We need Greenland, and the world needs Greenland, including Denmark. We need Denmark to have Greenland, and we know what you know.
“I look at it from a security perspective and we have to be there,” Trump added.
Greenland relies heavily on welfare from Denmark, and now contributes to about half its annual budget, equivalent to about $700 million a year.
In January, in response to Trump’s ambitions, Denmark announced that it would spend another $2 billion to strengthen its defenses on the island.

The Trump administration has hanging billions for Greenland to invest in developing its natural resources – rare earth minerals and oil and gas reserves.
However, given that 80% of the island is covered with sheets of ice, Greenland mining has proven to be well-known.
Earlier this week, Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede called the upcoming Vance visit, “very aggressive American pressure on the Greenland community,” and called on European leaders to oppose it.

Trump established the Space Force in 2019 as a way to protect against invasion of American interests on Earth’s orbit. In recent years, China and Russia have strengthened the Arctic Circle and have invested in icebreakers, new nuclear submarines and rare earth minerals.
