The Orange County Surf Shop owner is suing Lady Gaga for her new album, Mayhem. The logo infringes his Mayhem brand, Suit claims.
Matt Biolos said for almost 40 years his San Clemente-based business uses the mayhem logo often found in the culture of mayhem, skating and snow. The term Biolos’ nickname was registered as a trademark in 2015.
Biolos and business partner Mike Reola’s Lost International LLC sued Gaga on Tuesday, demanding that Biolos stop using the “Mayhem” logo, as reported in the Orange County Register.

As people reported, the lawsuit claims that the two logos are “nearly identical,” and they are seeking $100 million in damages.
“The sale of apparel and accessories by one of the world’s biggest stars using familiar names and logos, diluting his countercultural brand’s reputation and is now considered mainstream, claiming Biolos.
Biolos said they tried to settle things in a friendly way with Gaga’s legal team, but in a statement, lawyer Orin Snyder argued that Biolos and Reola were trying to shakedown.
“Lady Gaga’s ‘Mayhem’ surged to No. 1, and it’s testament to her unparalleled talent and global influence that shattered the record,” Snyder said. “It’s not surprising that I’m disappointed, but someone is now trying to capitalize on her success in an unfounded lawsuit named Mayhem.”
Gaga released their seventh studio album, “Mayhem,” on March 7th.
