The Trump administration’s signal chat leak represents a “deep” risk of “uncontrolled communication,” which could affect future operations, a former national intelligence official said on Sunday.
Sue Gordon, former deputy national intelligence director, responded to the leak when he appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” during President Donald Trump’s first term.
“I’m happy that the surgery was successful,” Gordon said. It mentioned US military strikes over targets of Hooty terrorists. “Now we need to address the fact that this should not happen. We can’t be sure that when it happens there will be consequences and there will be no sustained risks that follow.”
Gordon said the leak was different due to the Trump administration’s response of “nothing to see here” although there has been errors in the past regarding protecting partner information.

“I don’t think we should rely on the fact that nothing bad happened this time,” Gordon said. “We don’t know if that communication path is intrusive, so we don’t know if there are many resources of the nation sitting and hiding. [Signal]. ”
Signal, an encrypted messaging app, is now in the spotlight after it was revealed that top national security leaders were taking part in the group chat in a group chat debating plans to attack Yemeni terrorists, including Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg. The chat was published on a direct account of a group chat published by Goldberg in Monday’s article.

The Trump administration claims that the information classified in the chat has not been shared, and after Goldberg published certain texts from the chat on Wednesday, the Atlantic narrative doubled as “a hoax.”
The message included Defense Secretary Pete Hegses, who outlined that the fighter planes had taken off and the drones were ready for operation.
ret. Former Centcom commander General Frank Mackenzie also appeared on the program on Sunday, saying he was “surprised” by the leaks of communication, but believed that “the bigger story” had frankly escaped the previous administration “eventually began to attack Hausis violently.”
Mackenzie said “nothing will fall off the table” on how the US will stand up against Iran-backed terrorist groups.

“I think we have the ability to in fact threaten them very strongly in the weakened state of Iran for now,” the retired general said.
