The magnolia tree reportedly planted by Andrew Jackson will be reduced, Trump says

President Donald Trump has announced plans to cut down a tree that is said to have been planted by former President Andrew Jackson.

In Sunday’s Truth Social Post, Trump said he is working with “the wonderful people of the National Park Service” to “much stronger and thus preserve history and protect the White House.”

“One interesting dilemma is the tree planted many years ago by the legendary president and general Andrew Jackson,” Trump explained. “It’s South Magnolia from his home, Hermitage, Tennessee. That’s good news!”

“The bad news is that everything has to be finished. The tree is in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, it is at the entrance to the White House and now has to be removed,” he continued.

When Trump nominated Susan Monales to become the next CDC director, Americans say they “lost confidence” in their agency

The historic tree will be chopped up in the coming days, with Trump writing that it will replace “a different, very beautiful tree.”

“Historical wood from the trees may be preserved by White House staff and used for other noble and noble purposes!!!” the president added.

Jackson, who served as president from 1829 to 1837, reportedly planted two magnolia trees near the White House in honor of his wife Rachel, who died in 1828.

“The historical photographic documents show that Magnolia first appeared in this location near South Portico in the 1860s, but the trees are still attributed to President Jackson,” the agency explained.

“In 2006, the tree was designated as an eyewitness tree by the National Park Service, highlighting many witnesses of many “historical and cultural events,” the NP said. “It also boldly hit the brunt of a Cessna plane targeting the White House in September 1994, and was subject to significant branch removal and pruning in December 2017.”

The initial response to Trump’s announcement was mixed on social media, but the president’s supporters largely supported the decision.

“I’m a trade tree expert. I’ve been working with trees for 30 years… these [magnolia] Trees have soft wood that can dry out and become brittle with age. One X user wrote.

“Prepare left to treat this like WW3,” there was another joke.

“He’s lying down his head and trying to rewrite or destroy history!” wrote Trump critics. “Trees are far more important than cards!”
