Republican Jimmy Patronis, former Florida Chief Financial Officer before Gov. Ron DeSantis, dodged his Democratic opponents and successfully raced to take over former Congressman Matt Getz in Tuesday’s special election in Florida.
President Donald Trump scored 37 points for the district in the 2024 election.
The 6th Congressional District Special Election is considered an early referendum for Trump’s second term, in addition to District 6, which replaces US national security adviser Mike Waltz.

Trump expressed his support for Patronis on Tuesday morning, urging people to vote.
“Jimmy Patronis, Chief Financial Director and Firefighter Marshall of Florida’s great state, is running an incredible campaign for Congress in Florida’s First Congressional District!” Trump wrote about the true society.
“Jimmy, a fourth generation Floridian from the beautiful Panhandle and owner of the iconic seafood restaurant, was a great friend to me. As the next legislator, Jimmy will fight hard with us, grow our economy, steal our borders, stop immigration crime, and protect our brave army to protect our brave army/veterinarians.

“Florida, Election Day is today. Go out and vote for Jimmy Patronis. Jimmy has my full and full support. He will never disappoint you!” Trump added.
Republicans had an advantage with Patronis’ race, but Valimont was able to pass his opponent significantly, flashing some warning signs.

A few days after Trump’s announcement, and after several Senate meetings, Gaetz officially retracted from consideration.
Pam Bondi was then nominated by Trump for the role and was eventually confirmed as Attorney General.
