A man has been arrested in connection with the ruthless murder of a 15-year-old Riverside County boy.
The suspect was identified as Vincent Gonzalez, 37, of Lake Elsinore, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 5, 2007, deputies at Moreno Valley Station responded to reports of shots fired in a dirt field in the 23,000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, Moreno Valley.
Deputies arrived and found 15-year-old Cravawn Mallett suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead. The shooter had escaped the scene.
The detective began investigating the case, but after a few years of solid leads, the case became cold.
In 2024, Riverside County investigators were considering the case when they identified new evidence and decided to resume the case.

Almost 18 years after the boy’s murder, detectives identified Gonzalez as the main suspect.
On March 28th, Gonzalez was arrested on Lake Elsinore and booked at the COIS Bird Detention Center for murder.
Further details including motives and how the suspects and victims are known to each other were not released as investigations remained ongoing.
