The final four of the 2025 NCAA Tournament will take place on Friday in Tampa, Florida, with the National Championship Game spot being grabs.
In the national semi-finals, the overall seeded UCLA Bruins will win the second UConn Husky and will see the defending champion No. 1 South Carolina Gamecox fight against No. 1 Texas Longhorn. And the two matchups share a common theme.
Each game features severe disparities in the last four recent experiences between the programs. Geno Auriemma’s Huskies are the 16th Final Four in the last 17 tournaments and the 24th overall record, while Cori Close’s Bruins is making their first appearance in the program’s national semi-finals.
Like the Husky, Dawn Staley and The Gamecock are not strangers in Final 4, making their seventh appearance since their debut in 2015.
However, one area where these last four matchups differ is in the familiarity department. This will be the fourth showdown of the season between South Carolina and Texas. Sec Foes split two regular season meetings that each won at home and won the meeting’s regular season title.
The Gamecocks then crushed the Longhorns at the SEC Tournament Championship last month. South Carolina scored 15 points from Chloe Kitts in the victory. The Longhorns First Team All-American Madison Booker scored 10 points in a 4-13 shooting. Another victory over Texas will put South Carolina on the brink of historic repetition.
Meanwhile, UCLA and UConn have not seen each other yet this season. The final meeting between the programs took place earlier last season at the Cayman Island Classic, in which the Bruins defeated the Husky 78-67. Bruins guard Kiki Rice fell 24 points with the husky, flirting with a triple double. UConn’s first team, All-American Paige Bueckers, scored over 30 points in three straight games and went out 31 points against UCLA.
