As Los Angeles continues to suffer from dangerous, and sometimes fatal street takeovers, several San Fernando Valley neighborhoods will have safety measures installed to prevent large gatherings and dangerous car stunts.
As part of a pilot program launched by LA City Councilman Monica Rodriguez, some of the Silmer’s problem spots now have bollards and grow paint at intersections that include the corner of Pork Street and Glenok Boulevard, when the car was hit by the restaurant during the 2021 street takeover.
Authorities have tried to respond to dangerous, illegal events, but Rodriguez said they may not have the resources to crack down on everything.
“We cannot approach these cases with enforcement tactics alone,” said a councillor representing the San Fernando Valley area, saying additional safety measures should be added. “We also have to change our behavior on the streets.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has found several common spots used by street takeover organizers as former chief Michelle Moore directed four transportation departments in the city as special warnings.
