Anaheim woman tells the horrifying moment when she is trapped in the second story of her home after the kitchen appliance lit a massive fire in her home.
Nicole Hunter said he was asleep around 5am. She woke up to the sound of a fire alarm and the smell of smoke filling her home.
“Smoke hit me in my face,” Hunter recalls. “I could see him climb the stairs and come into the hallway.”

She went downstairs and called 911. She went back upstairs to warn her roommates and gathered things in the bedroom. However, as she was about to leave the room, she realized she was locked up.
“When you open my door it’s completely covered in smoke,” she told the urgent dispatcher in an audio recording obtained by KTLA.
Confined to her room, she placed a wet towel at the foot of the door to prevent the flames from entering.
“I’ll put it in my head, be rescued and everything’s going to be fine,” Hunter said.
Anaheim firefighters quickly arrived at the house and were able to erase the growing flames and rescue hunters.
“In this scenario, when I put that wet towel at the foot of the door, her bedroom was the safest place in the entire house due to the actions she did,” Kevin Olsen told the Anaheim Fire Station. “I’ll leave that door closed and put the towel there.”
Hunter said she is grateful that no one has been hurt and that she is grateful to Anaheim Fire and the dispatcher who is with her during one of the most frightening moments of her life.
“A sense of security and [the dispatcher] He said it was all okay and he was like that,” she said.
