Police have arrested several times and seized more than 500 pounds of cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms in a warehouse suspected to be Costa Mesa’s illegal drug sales hub.
The Laguna Beach Police Station announced Friday that the operation, which took place on April 1, was connected to an earlier search warrant carried out at the Cinderbox Smoke Shop at the end of January.
A search warrant in January caused law enforcement to make multiple arrests at local smoke shops and take around 3.8 pounds of the same type of drug, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
The operation allowed investigators to find Costa Mesa warehouses and confirm that it was used as a hub for the illegal distribution of cannabis and psychedelic drugs.
A few months later, authorities from multiple agencies worked together to execute a search warrant for the hub.
“After enforcing the warrant, officers detained and identified several suspects related to the illegal sale of controlled substances,” police said at release.
Officials did not publicly identify the suspects or identify the number of arrested in the initial report.
The department said it had recovered about 451 pounds of cannabis products in total, including loose marijuana buds, THC concentrates and edibles.
Additionally, authorities seized about 54 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms. These products included chocolate bars, microdocandies and full mushrooms.

“The investigation is still underway and any claims related to the illegal sale of controlled substances are pending,” the department said.
