The first picture of the new Mega Millions game, which costs $5 per ticket, rather than $2 per ticket for the previous game, took place on Tuesday night.
“While the jackpots weren’t hit anywhere in the country, a total of 28,969 California lottery players won at the level of other awards,” California lottery officials said in a news release.
Lottery officials say the new expenses will bring more money to the California schools.
“More than 19,000 Californians have won between $10 and $50, especially just to match the gold mega balls,” the news release said. “In past drawings, such a match would have been a Thai game.”
One Southern California player won $23,330 for four of the five numbers and Megaball. That victory ticket was sold at Vons Express at 29910 Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Murrieta.
The number of wins since Tuesday’s draw was 10, 16, 50, 60 and 61, with 17 megaballs.
Authorities say continued sales increased the estimated jackpot of withdrawals to $72 million on Friday.
“Congratulations to all the players who participated in the first painting last night. Every entry in Mega Million is worth nearly $2 for California public schools and will help support a wide range of programs across the state,” said Carolyn Becker, a California lottery spokesman.
