The Orange County high school wrestling coach was arrested on suspicion of grooming a young female athlete and forcing her to have sex, authorities said.
Anthony Oscar Alcala, 28, of Huntington Beach, was arrested on April 3 after the Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigated allegations of sexual relations with the two girls between 2017 and 2023, according to a department news release. The alleged abuse occurred while Alcala was working at El Modena and Foothill high school.
He was booked for sexual penetration of oral mating with minors by an individual over the age of 21 and suspected oral mating by an individual over the age of 21. Alcala posted bail and was released from prison on Friday, a spokesman said.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is considering the case and no arrest date has been set, the spokesman said.
The sheriff’s department was contacted in February by an organization that works to reduce sexual assaults among athletes. The department then reached out to the accuser. He said he had sexual relations with Alcala while he was coaching.
Investigators believe there may be additional casualties given Alcala’s widespread access to minors. According to the Sheriff’s department, he worked as a coach at Private Wrestling Club Premier Wrestling, previously known as Placentia’s Somar Wrestling.
