President Donald Trump has said “American showers are amazing again.”
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order ending Biden-era conservation measures that put “overregulated” water pressure.
The restrictions were previously imposed by former President Barack Obama. Trump tried to ease water-saving measures during his first term, but his efforts to restore “shower freedom” were eventually reversed by former President Joe Biden.
“I like to take a nice shower and take care of my beautiful hair,” Trump said when he signed an executive order at the White House. “I have to shower for 15 minutes until I get wet. There’s drip, drip, drip, drip. That’s ridiculous.”

“What you’re doing is that you’re supposed to wash your hands five times longer, so it’s the same water,” he added. “And we’re going to open it up so that people can live.”
During the Obama administration, the former president “actively” limited the amount of water that could be emitted from electrical appliances such as showerheads, washing machines and toilets, the White House said.
“These changes helped the fundamental green agenda that has made life worse for everyday Americans,” the White House said in a statement.

With a new executive order, Trump will reset the definition of “shower heads” from the 1992 Energy Act.
“The order frees Americans from excessive restrictions that have turned basic household items into bureaucratic nightmares,” the White House said. “Shower heads are weak and worthless.”

The White House added: “These appliances worked perfectly well before Biden’s interference piled up on the complex regulations that exacerbated these appliances.”

The U.S. Department of Energy previously said that conservation standards significantly reduce energy waste and harmful carbon pollution, saving Americans billions of dollars per year on energy and water bills.
“Almost every US household has water heaters, and for too long the standard for energy efficiency has led to a higher family utility bill,” said former energy secretary Jennifer M. Granholm in a 2024 statement.
