Prosecutors say the Ventura County man allegedly slashed officers with shards of glass while facing the country after Monday’s domestic conflict.
In a news release, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said 34-year-old Luciocedeno was charged after an Oxnard police officer was hospitalized.
Oxnard Police Department officials responded to a family dispute reported Monday. Upon arrival they are said to have Cedeno assaulted the family and failed to comply with the requirements of a sex offender.
Cedeno left the officer and ignored the instructions. Officers followed him and tried to detain him.
At that point, prosecutors said Cedeno used large pieces of glass to cut down on the neck officer.
At that point, the officers took Cedeno into custody. The officer was treated at a local hospital, but the extent of his injury was not revealed.
“This case highlights the dangers our law enforcement officers face in their duties,” District Attorney Eric Nasalenko said. “We will vet slay people who threaten public safety officers and harm members of our community.”
Cedeno appeared in court on Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty to the following charges: He resisted peace officers causing assault on peace officers, serious physical injuries, and failed to renew their annual sex offender registration.
His next court date was scheduled for April 18th. Cedeno is being held on bail of $80,000.
