Chinese claimed closed room, PRC played a role in US cyberattacks: Report

An informed Wall Street Journal report from people familiar with the issue revealed that the meeting in December confirmed that it closed behind a closed door at the December meeting.

The news follows the tariffs that both countries have been imposed by President Donald Trump and have been redirected and raised by President Xi Jinping.

Exclusively, the Wall Street Journal reported that a person who spoke on condition of anonymity allegedly connected cyberattacks of US ports, airports, utilities and other important targets to Taiwan’s aid.

The report noted that during a summit in Geneva, Biden administration officials firsthand learned of the discoveries as Chinese counterparts condemned a campaign called Bolt Typhoon in criminal organizations.

Chinese officials also accused the US of pointing out China’s responsibility based on their imagination.

The White House and the State Department did not respond to requests for comment on the issue of Fox News Digital.

The Chinese embassy told Fox Business News that China is “sturdy against” the smears without any practical evidence.

“Cyberspace is characterized by powerful virtuality, difficulty in tracking origins and a variety of actors, making cyberattack tracing a complex technical problem,” said Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu. “We hope that the parties involved will adopt professional and responsible attitudes when characterizing cyber cases and make conclusions based on sufficient evidence rather than unfounded speculation or accusations.

“The US needs to stop using cybersecurity and smear China by smearing it, and stop spreading all sorts of disinformation about the so-called Chinese hacking threat,” he added.

The Biden administration warned state leaders in March 2024 that cyberattacks by hackers related to Iran and China could defeat water systems across the United States if cybersecurity measures were not removed from precautions.

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Michael S. Regan and Biden’s assistant for national security issues Jake Sullivan later said in an email to the governor that cyberattacks are targeting water and wastewater systems across the United States.

In the letter, two Biden administration officials said the attack could disrupt clean, safe drinking water and impose large costs on affected communities.

One attack was linked to Iran, while another threat came from a hacker group sponsored by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) that undermine information technology in critical infrastructure systems, including drinking water facilities in the United States and its regions.

As US authorities warned about Volt Typhoon’s efforts, they also accused the PRC of trying to enter the US computer network to unleash cyberattacks during a future unforeseen conflict.

The FBI said in December that Beijing hackers had broken into “multiple” telecommunications companies’ networks, gaining access to customer call records and private communications of “a limited number of individuals.” However, the targets pointed out by the FBI in December were Americans involved in government and politics.

A federal investigation revealed a massive Chinese cyberepion campaign, targeting US telecommunications networks to steal American information. The White House top official confirmed in December that at least eight US telecom companies were affected by Hacking Spree.

The campaign was thought to have been launched a year or two ago, the Associated Press reported.
