Detectives were scrutinizing the phone calls of a Sonoma County man who was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography, but they allegedly found a different form of intrusive media.
The man is currently facing charges of both animal and child abuse.
According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Jeremiah Ortega was arrested on April 3 on suspicion of possession of child pornography and was released from custody Monday after a court hearing.
Officials then discovered footage of the dog and rebooted Ortega in Santa Rosa just two days later, reciting animal abuse, animal sexual assault and allegedly violated probation.
Detectives took the dog to Sonoma County Animal Services for testing and care. A shelter representative said they could not provide updates on the dog’s condition due to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Ortega, meanwhile, has been charged with seven felony charges. He is charged in one of animal cruelty, indecent behaviour with a child using power and fear, indecent behaviour against a child, and one lawsuit of possession of child pornography. He was arrested Friday and is scheduled to enter a plea on May 2nd.
His bail, originally set at $27,000, has been raised to $77,000 in light of the new fee. He remains in custody at a master’s custody facility in Sonoma County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ortega was arrested last May on suspicion of drunk driving, and has since given no contest to driving under the influence of blood alcohol levels above 0.08%, court records show.
Ortega did not file a 2023 petty theft dispute, including three misdemeanors, according to court records.
