More than 150 vehicles have gathered in the Orange County Shopping Centre parking lot for what police called a “reckless driving acquisition,” officials said Monday.
As a result, at least one suspect was arrested and caught on camera.
The Santa Ana Police Department said patrol officials responded to the acquisition as it happened Sunday night at the 17th Centre, a mall on 17th Avenue and Tustin Avenue.
Officers arrived to find a large gathering in the car park and began ordering the driver to leave.
The department did not say what time the rally began, but body camera footage was taken around 10:48pm.
“After leaving multiple commands, one driver started “doughnuts” in the parking lot,” he explained in detail the Santa Ana PD post.
While officers are detaining the suspect, other drivers taking part in the acquisition can be heard screaming and screaming from afar in the bodycam footage. Click here to view the video in sound.
Police did not immediately publicly identify the suspect.
“Santa Ana PD has zero tolerance for reckless driving and street racing,” the department added.
As of 8pm Monday, authorities did not report any other arrests made during the event.
