The search is looking for a team of thieves who stole millions of dollars in goods and cash after climbing the tunnel into a downtown Los Angeles jewelry store.
The owner of Love Jewels says it’s out millions of dollars following a complicated weekend break-in. They suspect it took a few weeks for the burglars to tunnel the tunnel into their store to do so using the abandoned theatre next door.
“They probably went in there every night and slowly dug until there was enough room for them to enter,” the shopkeeper’s son, who wanted to hide his identity, told NBC4.
Love Jewel is a family-run store, and the owner believes more than $20 million has been lost. Police did not confirm the numbers, but they said they were investigating the crime.
“In the gold business, we reinvest everything, so all our money was safe,” my son said.
“They were able to disable the camera, disable the alarm, and get into both safes,” my son said. “They probably spent five or six hours here.”
The owner believes it took hours for the burglar to cut to his own safety.
The investigation is underway.
