(Nexstar) – Almost 33 years have passed since the release of the 1990s children’s classic film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, but a few years later, the film still remains the topic of discussion online.
Recently, director Chris Columbus (who also directed the first “Home Alone”) told the San Francisco Chronicle he hopes that certain elements of the 1992 sequel will “become this curse.”

In the film, the main character, Kevin (McAuley Culkin), walks through the famous Plaza Hotel in New York.
Since Trump first entered the political field 10 years ago, it was a seven-second cameo and frequently played rounds on social media.

“I can’t cut it,” Columbus told the Chronicle. “If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent from the country. I’m not considered suitable to live in the US, so I have to go back to Italy or something.”
According to Columbus, Trump would only agree to allow filming in the Plaza lobby if he was included in the film.

“We paid [filming] The price, but he said, “The only way I can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.” So we agreed to put him in the film,” Columbus told Business Insider in December 2023. Columbus added that he felt Trump “bridled his way into the film.”
Trump responded quickly to Columbus’ comments on his social media platform, Truth Social. The president, who was a capable person at the time, wrote the following:
In his opinion, “The cameo took off like a rocket, and the film was a huge success,” he continued, “it was perfect for the film.”
Meanwhile, Kevin McAlister’s own Culkin has said many times that he supports removing Trump’s cameo from “Home Alone 2.” In January 2021, Culkin responded to a reading of the semi-virus tweet.
At the time of publication, Trump has not spurred Columbus (yet).
