Police released brutal surveillance video on Tuesday, showing multiple catastrophic falls that led to the death of a valley prison prison prison prison prison prison while he was struggling with his withdrawal.

The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the man as 55-year-old Stephen Miller.

Towards the start of the long 15-minute video, body cam footage shows Miller’s arrest. LAPD said it began as a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation.

According to the release, a mission area patrol officer pulled over the mirror around 1:15am on March 9th as the headlights were on. The video also showed a woman in the passenger seat, but she was not identified and her face was blurry.

Miller appeared to be very compliant with the footage and was helping out the officers’ requests. When officers asked if they had been arrested earlier, Miller replied, “Not for a long time.”

Officers carried out Miller’s information and found him to have a felony warrant for his arrest.

The footage shows the officers returning and ask the mirror to turn off the car.

When Miller turns the car off, he looks up at the officer and says, “I have a warrant, right?”

Stephen Miller, 55, will be seen when he was arrested in Los Angeles on March 9, 2025. The officer puts Miller in handcuffs, and the video shows other officers passing through the trunk to find illegal drugs. When both Miller and the passenger are handcuffed, officers tell them they both are being held in custody – the woman denies the drugs belong to hers.

“Everything there is mine, and all the medicines in that car are mine,” Miller said. “Officer, I’m giving you my words, everything about that car belongs to me.”

The release did not include whether the woman was arrested or not, but police said Miller had been booked at VJS later that morning.

About 16 hours after being booked to prison, LAPD said Miller revealed to medical staff that he was a heroin user and had experienced withdrawal symptoms.

Miller was treated by staff and was eventually allowed to return to his holding cell. He remained incarcerated for the next two days.

It then shows that Miller was standing near the inside sink of his phone when he first collapsed, just after he left bed around 5am on March 11th.

He wakes up for a while, then he collapses again, slamming his head on the cement floor for the second time.

The LAPD footage shows each collapse in real time, zooming each fall version slower. After each instance, of the other arrested sleeping in the cell, sit and notice the situation.

After the second fall, Miller was able to get back up again, but not long, headed to the ground for a few beats.

He took just a few steps on it and stood next to the bed before falling down at the end. The footage shows the mirror appears to be hitting his chin on the bed frame next to him in front of his head. Once again, it hits the cement floor.

LAPD said another arrested had summoned prison staff to solitary cells and a large group responded and worked to escort Miller to the prison medical clinic as seen in the footage.

While undergoing medical staff, authorities said Miller had experienced breathing problems and lost consciousness. Paramedics from the LA Fire Station arrived to take over Miller’s care, but he had no response.

Approximately an hour after his initial collapse, paramedics declared that Miller had died.

“A representative from the Los Angeles County Medical Examination Office responded to the scene and took Miller’s body to the Forensic Center, where an autopsy is pending,” LAPD said.

Death is under investigation.
