More than a dozen lottery tickets will be given to public seats in the courtroom for upcoming hearings for Eric and Lyle Menendez, Los Angeles County Superior Court announced Tuesday.
The pair of brothers, who are trying to repeat their suit, are scheduled to appear again in court on Thursday and Friday as their lawyers, with the family pleasing for a second chance. They have spent time behind the bar for the 1989 murder of their parents.
A public lottery will be held on Thursday and Friday in front of Van Nuis Courthouse West, where the brothers will be appearing. The LA County Superior Court said lottery tickets will be distributed between 7am and 8:15am. There are 16 seats in the lottery.
Those selected for public seating will be given a badge that must be worn at all times in court. Badges are valid only for the date they were issued.
Badges are not transferable, the court warned. Anyone who attempts to transfer the badge to another person will not be allowed to participate in public lottery tickets.
The lawsuit is expected to begin at 9:30am on both court dates. The judge is expected to hear debate about the suitability of brothers’ responsibilities.
