A federal judge said Wednesday that he discovered a possible cause for the Trump administration to retain the administration in a criminal contradiction over the deportation flight he sent to El Salvador, NBC News reports.
“The actions of the government that day indicate a deliberate disregard for the order and are sufficient to conclude that there is a possible cause for the court to find the government in criminal contenses.”
“The court does not reach such conclusions lightly or in a hurry. In fact, it gave the defendants a sufficient opportunity to correct or explain their actions. None of their reactions were satisfactory,” the judge wrote.
Boasberg ordered the plane that was in the air during an emergency hearing shortly after the White House was released, and soon after President Donald Trump announced that he had signed the alien enemy laws (a rarely used wartime power).
The plaintiff’s lawyer in the case said the five clients were not members of the Tren de Aragua gang and had been sent to a prison in El Salvador without justification.
He added: “If the defendant chooses to cleanse the light empty, he will make a declaration explaining the measures they have taken, which he shall submit by April 23, 2025, and will take to do so.”
The White House did not immediately comment on the ruling.
