The Writers Guild of America has banned members from working with controversial Hollywood film producer Randall Emmett, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Emmett has been on the Guild Strikes since 2020 in partnership with Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese to “fail to pay the writer for work on past projects” for the film “Wall of White,” a 1982 avalanche near Lake Tahoe.
Emmett is also charged with business misconduct and abuse of his staff, allegations he denied.
“Emmett has a long history of refusing to respect his obligations to writers, and the guild has filed numerous arbitration requests against companies owned by Emmett over the past decade,” the WGA said in an email.

“We are fully funding this film and we intend to resolve this dispute in the coming weeks,” Emmett told the Times.
“Our representatives reach out to the Writers Guild, so we can put this issue behind us for six years,” he added.
But Leila Azali, a senior WGA lawyer, told The Times that Emmett “he said many times in the past that he would not pay.”
IMDB says Petter Skavlan, who the Times has identified as a member of the WGA, is working on the film. Requests for comment to his representative were not returned prior to publication.
No requests for comment were returned from Scorsese’s representative.
