Sen. Chris Van Hollen said he would “not rest” until MS-13 member Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who was deported to his home country’s mega prison, is brought back to the United States during a trip to El Salvador on Wednesday.

Van Hollen described the man as “illegally accused” and traveled to El Salvador to discuss his efforts to bring him back to Maryland, where he lived illegally.

The senator was able to speak to Vice President of Felix Augusto Antonio Ulloa Garrey, but was unable to contact Abrego Garcia in person or by phone.

“I fought all day in El Salvador for Abrego Garcia’s return,” Van Hollen said in the caption of a video posted to X on Wednesday night. “Trump administrators can lie to everything they want, but the court said he failed to show that he is part of the MS-13. This is to bring home a man who he admits should not be accused of. Until then, there will be no rest.”

Van Hollen’s visit to El Salvador comes two days after an illegal El Salvador alien was convicted of raping and murdering Maryland mom Rachel Morin on the Bel Air trails.

Morin’s mother Patty says Van Hollen has never reached out to her about the violent murder of her daughter in Maryland, but he prioritizes bringing the man who was kicked out of the country back to the state.

Van Hollen issued the following statement on his official Senate website shortly after Morin’s murderer was convicted, saying, “The verdict brings a measure of justice. [Rachel’s family] Very worth it[s]. ”

“The conviction of Rachel Morin’s murderer will not return Rachel to her family she is justified, but this verdict brings a measure of justice they deserve. We are grateful for the law enforcement officer who detained her murderer and the legal process to provide this justice.

“As I have said in the past, Americans deserve meaningful action to reform the broken immigration system, improve public safety, and enhance border security. We also support the immigrant community and respect the rights of individuals who are legally here. I am committed to doing both.

“Fatiful” of DEM Senator’s trip, Tom Homan brings MS-13 gang members home

When appearing at the White House press conference on Wednesday, Patty Morin called out Van Hollen for his visit to El Salvador.

“And the Maryland senator who admitted or barely admitted my daughter, and the brutal death she endured, leaving behind five motherless children and now grandmotherless babies, can use my taxpayer money to fly to El Salvador and even American citizens to take home home,” she said. “Why does he have more rights than my daughter? For my grandchild?”

He did not speak directly to Patty Morin, but in a video posted late Wednesday evening, Van Hollen said he cared “about all the victims of the crime.”

He also said the United States has a court system to ensure criminals are held liable, saying, “People who have never committed a crime or were convicted of a crime have not disappeared from the United States and have been sent to infamous Salvador prisons like Abrego Garcia.”

“This is simply giving him a day in court. We use the court to make sure that we do not convict the innocent person and that we are convicted of the person we are,” he said.

“Maryland Man” Kilmer Abrego Garcia has been exposed to police records as a “violent” repeatedly wife beater

Abrego Garcia is at the heart of a controversial debate after being deported to the “Center of Terrorism Confinement” (CECOT) in El Salvador on allegations of his gang affiliation, which his lawyers denied.

The Department of Homeland Security shared an interview sheet with Fox News, the Prince George County Police gang unit MS-13 intelligence team from the MS-13 Intelligence Squad, which actively identified Abrego Garcia in 2019, according to “Proven and Trusted Sources of Past.” Sources said he retained the rank of “Cekuo” and the fame of “Cele”;

According to the 2019 DHS interview document shared with Fox News, he claimed he had illegally entered the United States in 2019 on March 25, 2012, around March 25, 2012, around March 25, 2012, around March 25, 2012, around March 25, 2012, and around March 25, 2012, and then was eligible for deportation in 2019.

Van Hollen is not the only Democrat looking to visit Abrego Garcia in El Salvador with the goal of bringing him back to the United States after the Supreme Court upheld a lower court decision that ordered his interests last week.

The court “required that the government “promotes” the release of Abrego Garcia from custody in El Salvador and that his case be processed if he was not inappropriately sent to El Salvador.”

The Trump administration agreed to clear the administrative obstacles that would prevent Abrego Garcia from returning to the United States, but Attorney General Pam Bondy said that returning him was “until El Salvador, if they want to return him.”

Peter Pinedo, Greg Wehner and Bill Melugin of Fox News Digital contributed to this report.
