One man has been arrested, while the other is being sought by police for a counterfeiting scheme that hides a Los Angeles business, investigators said.
The suspect, identified by the Los Angeles Police Department as Gabriel Garcia Sevilla, 45, was arrested in February on surveillance cameras at a check store, and in a news release he attempted to cash out a forged check.
Recognizing the check was a counterfeit, and the clerk was called the police, leading to Seville’s arrest.
Police said Zepeda fled the area but has since been identified positively and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Detectives say between November 2024 and February 2025, the duo sacrifices several other check-washing businesses in the Hyde Park and Jefferson Park communities in LA, often using aliases Juan Navarro and Raul Medina.

LAPD’s Commercial Crime Division and Metropolitan Finance Section are warning other businesses of counterfeiting plans and asking for additional check cuts that two men may have sacrificed.
An investigation into check counterfeiting operations is still underway.
