The rally on the UCLA campus appeared Thursday to assist students who were detained by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) while attempting to enter the United States from Mexico.
Student and faculty organizers said the woman detained in San Isidro is an international graduate student at UCLA with an F-1 visa.
“UCLA has learned that international graduate students were detained by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) while they were trying to enter the US from Mexico. Students are under CBP’s control and we are actively working to learn more about international students.
According to the associate professor, students who were not identified were unable to speak to lawyers.
“Their lawyers submitted a form to look at them, and they have not been granted access so far, so I can’t share a lot of information with you about what happened,” said Graeme Blair, an associate professor of political science at UCLA.
Rally protesters said they would not remain quiet while their fellow students were under attack.
“We all knew this was coming. We knew about Tufts students who were unfairly lured. Honestly, we just knew what was going on here.” “We’re going to get up and get up for our fellow students and we can’t just sit and let it go because it’s wrong, so we’re going to try.”
The uncertainty comes after a UC system-wide visa, six UCLA students, and was revoked as part of the Trump administration’s fundamental crackdown.
“I’m a non-citizen and they have to talk to students who are terrifying and fear them because of the whimsical nature of our immigration policy,” Blair said.
