April 17 marks the 100 days since the launch of LA Wildfires, and Mayor Karenbus says the state is on track to recover the fastest wildfires in state history.
“The recovery is months away from expectations,” Bass said. “The water and electricity recovered in two months. The campfire took 18 months. The first permit was issued in 57 days. The campfire took 123 days. The Woolsey took 230.”
Local and state leaders met Thursday to admit that they lost more than 6,800 homes and 12 lives in the Palisade fire.
Two state senators, the California insurance commissioner and the incoming mayor of Malibu were among the local leaders who appeared today.
“We are not here today to celebrate progress, but we encourage you to acknowledge the pain, recognize your work that is still ahead, and walk with all residents walking on the path to recovery.”
Bass and councillor Traci Park began their day at the Parisades Library. The mayor said it is expected that the lot will take 30 days to clear, but the Engineer Army Company has cleared it with six people.
As of Wednesday, the city of Los Angeles has issued 19 reconstruction permits. Malibu has not yet issued a rebuild permission.
John Brown lived in Parisades Bowl Mobile Home Park for 10 years with his wife and two children before he was burned in the fire.
Brown said there is a discrepancy between mobile home regulations and landlord residents that he is unable to even have access to the property to sift through the ashes of his trailer and can’t make a reconstruction plan.
Lawmakers also laid down laws to support recovery efforts, including supporting mobile home parks, managing dangerous waste and protecting local ownership.
