Two Marines who died in a crash of a vehicle during a military campaign in New Mexico were identified by officials Thursday.
Lance Cpl. 22-year-old Albert A. Aguilera is a native of Riverside and joined the military in March 2023. Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamano, 28 years old from Fresno, joined the military in May 2022.
California Marines are two of three people involved in the vehicle accident in Santa Teresa, New Mexico on April 15, supporting the joint task force’s tropical border operations, officials said.
The three were taken to a Texas hospital, where Aguilera and Gamano were declared dead. The third Marine is in danger.
“Lance Cpl. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. The loss of Gamino is deeply felt by all of us,” said Lt. Col. Tyron A. Barion, the US Marine Corps, is commander of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and task force Sapper. “I spread my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families of my brothers who have fallen. Our top priority now is to ensure that their families and the Marines affected by their deaths are fully supported during this difficult time.”
Officials say Aguilera and Gamano were promoted to Head of Lance Corp in 2024.
The incident is under investigation.
