Grassley says left-wing groups may need to register a Farah over Chinese ties

According to Republican Senators, Code Pink, best known for disrupting hearings in trademark fuchsia clothing, may need to register under the 1938 Act, which requires foreign organizations or governments to benefit foreign organizations or governments.

R-Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley on Wednesday wrote to FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi whether Code Pink and New York-based socialist “incubators” should register under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (Fara).

“The Department of Justice [FARA, which] Grassley remains a priority tool for fighting hostile foreign governments.

“Farrah provides much-needed accountability and transparency to the American people. Farrah is a content-neutral legislation and does not require an entity or individual to refrain from any particular type of speech or activity.

With a particularly focus on China, Grassley said the CCP has spent more than $400 million since 2016 to influence American politics, with both Code Pink and People’s Forum having ties with the wealthy Shanghai-based US civic activist Neville Roy Singham, and the CCP itself.

“Singham refused to cooperate with the Chinese government. However, in July 2023, Singham reportedly attended a Communist Party workshop on “promoting the party internationally,” Grassley wrote.

“Singham reportedly shares offices and staff with Shanghai Mak’s cultural communications company, whose goal is to “educate foreigners” about the miracles China has created on the world stage. Additionally, Singham’s news outlet is reportedly co-producing the show on YouTube, which is partially funded by Shanghai’s propaganda division,” he added, footnotes a 2023 New York Times report.

Code Pink was co-founded by Singham’s wife Jodi Evans, and according to Grassley, received a large donation from a group tied to Singham.

Grassley, who appears to be quoting the Times, catalogued Evans’ criticism of Uyghur people as terrorists, but the US government is believed to be the victim of human rights abuse at the hands of the Chinese government. He wrote that Evans married Singham and “became a recipient of the funds that tied him.”

The letter also cited a meeting between Code Pink and the House Selection Committee on China. He said he “denies evidence of forced labour from Xinjiang, a public policy position that benefits China’s interests,” and urges the Foreign Relations Commission to vote for “Nay” to fund a $1.6 billion anti-Chinese propaganda campaign.

Regarding the People’s Forum, which operates cafes and meeting spaces in Manhattan, Grassley cited free reports that it discovered the “main funders” of the group that organized anti-Israel protests in Times Square after October 7, 2023.

Grassley quotes a tweet in response to the claim that people’s forums would receive “dark money,” saying “Roy Singham, a Marxist comrade who sold his company and donated most of his wealth to a nonprofit focused on political education, culture and internationalism.”

R-Ark. Rep. Bruce Westerman previously wrote to a forum of people demanding answers on the July 24th pro-Palestinian mass vandalism protest at Washington Union Station and the broader “Shut It 4-Palestinian movement” nationwide.

In a statement, Grassley said, “It suggests that the People’s Forum and Code Pink are influenced by Singham and the Communist Chinese government, both of which are foreign principals.”

“The evidence also suggests that People’s Forum and Code Pink are engaged in political activities that directly advance the political and policy interests of the communist Chinese government.”

“Secret foreign lobbying and public relations campaigns by China and other enemies undermine the political will and interests of the American people,” he added, calling on Bondi and Patel to review the interaction between the group and the DOJ, reviewing what the Fed did to assess their Farah eligibility.

Fox News Digital contacted the two emails listed for Code Pink and People’s Forum and Singham, but received no response.
