Multiple trees in downtown LA appear to have been meaninglessly knocked down late at night by vandals along Grand Avenue to the south.
Residents of the area woke up on Sunday to find that several trees scattered around Grand Hope Park had been illegally mowed. Many of the cut-off trees fell into the streets and even obstructed several sidewalks
“I saw a tree at the Olympics and wanted it to be chopped in half. I thought I knew what the city had done,” said Media Mousabie, confused by the fallen tree. “As I walk around, I see a few other trees just above us at the ground, three cut down across from Wells Fargo.
Moussavy posted wooden videos on his social media and began receiving messages of concern from his followers and people in the city.
“I started to get messages from everyone in town that this is not a city job. Someone obviously did this overnight from Friday to Saturday. It was clearly a sinister thing,” Musabi said.
It is unknown when the trees were cut down.
In a social media post, Councillor Isabel Jurad, who represents the affected district, said her office is aware of the situation and is working with police to investigate.
“It’s really beyond understanding that someone does this. The city’s public works crew are assessing the damage and planning to quickly replace these damaged trees. The LAPD must investigate what happened and holds accountable to the person in charge,” the LA mayor wrote.
LAPD asks anyone with information to call the central department. Those who want to remain anonymous can leave the chip at 1-800-222-TIPS.
