Authorities identified the bodies found in the Mead National Recreation Area over the weekend, as Dr. Shawn Freener, a well-known veterinarian doctor who has been missing since April 6th.
The National Park Service began a search in Lakemeade after Freener’s keys, wallet and mobile phone were found in a truck parked at Hemenway Port on April 7th. According to the NPS, his body was found on April 18th near the Boulder Islands, within the Lakemeade National Recreation Area.
On April 19, the Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed Freener’s identity through dental records. His cause and the way of death were not released, and additional details were not immediately available.

Earlier this month, Freener apologised and admitted that he kicked a horse that was paid to manage anesthesia shots on his Nevada property. Frehner announced an apology after the video of the incident went viral.
“I didn’t blatantly carry this horse out and kick it, as it appears in the video. That wasn’t my intention,” Freener wrote. “It was simply done so that he could breathe and get up and move to put the horse in a better position.
“But yes, I kicked him with the chin and I apologize very much and hope this never happens,” he wrote.
In his apology, Freener said he was about to reposition the horse. He was the subject of an investigation into animal cruelty by Nye County deputies following complaints from horse owners.
Another video obtained by KLAS on Nexstar showed Frehner washing away the horse’s nose with a syringe. Shortly afterwards he was seen jabing a horse in his face.
According to a report filed the day after he disappeared, Freener’s father Rex told police when he spoke to Sean on Sunday, April 6, that his son said he was struggling with one of the horses.
Obtained, Klas shows that it was placed on probation by the Nevada Veterinary Review Board, which placed Frehner’s license on Frehner’s probation in 2016. He agreed to a one-year licence suspension.
Reasons for discipline included handwritten or call logs on the back of his invoice. He also gave prescription medication to his “plastic bag” client without checking how much medication was being distributed.
