A man slapped the dog multiple times on a leash in Long Beach today, then kicked the animal, offering people $5,000 for ethical treatment of the animal, urging them to lead to convictions.
The man has been widely shared on social media and allegedly abused the animal at 235 E. 12th St. around 5:36am on Monday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
“We know of a viral video depicting an incident of animal cruelty in the 200 block of East 12th Street,” police said in a statement.
LBPD Patrol officers responded to the location and received an animal cruelty report. Police said Long Beach Animal Care Services assisted in the investigation to ensure the animals were safe.
According to PETA, the abuse occurred outside of Beacon Point apartments. This also seeks information that leads to a “life-threatening” dog’s location and where dogs may need veterinary care.
“He swings the dog over his shoulder, slaps the dog on the ground, kicks the dog in the face, winds the animal up, and the dog hangs behind his back and goes outside, invisible,” Peta spokeswoman Nicole Pereria said in a statement.
Interested people were shown in surveillance footage as if carrying a black backpack wearing orange pants, a red flannel shirt. He was also traveling with skateboarding.
“The dogs rely on us to keep them safe, and this dog suffered from violent attacks that completely betrayed their trust.
“This dog is at risk as long as it stays in this abuser’s clutch, and Peta urges anyone who recognizes the man in this video to move forward quickly. It can save this dog’s life,” she added.
