New details are emerging in a chaotic, deadly fast track from Orange County that fell last week and ended with a police shootout.
According to a news release from the Anaheim Police Department, the April 16 incident began just before 8pm when officers responded to the Cona Motel at 331 N. Brookhurst Street with reports of the shooting.
Officials found a man suffering from a gunshot wound at the location, quickly broadcasting a description of the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, and said the suspect was last seen and fled the Brookhurst Street motel.
Additional officers discovered a pickup truck near Brookhurst Street and Lincoln Avenue, and chasing of the driver and passengers in the vehicle began when the suspect refused to stop for police.
“Anaheim police officers tracked the vehicle on the highway and on the city streets for about 45 minutes,” the release said. “Several pit maneuvers were attempted before the vehicle was disabled in the 1400 block of W. Memory Lane in Santa Ana.”

Sky5 captured the moment when a patrol vehicle from one officer came into contact with a pickup truck, rotated it onto the bridge’s guardrail, bouncing back in the opposite direction, colliding with the splitter in the middle of the bridge, which can be seen in the video player above.

Officers quickly surrounded the truck with patrol vehicles and fired at the suspect as smoke flowed from under the pickup.
“The driver of the suspect’s vehicle was fatally injured and was declared dead by Orange County Fire Department officials,” officials said. “A total of eight Anaheim police officers fired weapons during the incident.”
Miraculously, the adult male passenger survived the incident unharmed.
He was questioned at the station and was released a few hours later. At this time, no criminal charges against the man have been pursued, police said.
The victim of the Kona Motel male shooting was rushed to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition. So far, police have not announced the motive for the shooting and say it remains under investigation.
Officials said the identity of the deceased suspect, who is about 50 years old, has been withheld as confirmation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has been suspended.
