An Ancient Diocese announced Tuesday, a commemorative mass to honor Pope Francis’ life and ministry will be held on Friday at our Angels Cathedral.
Special Service will be held by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez at 12:10pm. Jose H. Gomez will be joined by auxiliary bishops and clergy of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Friday’s Mass anticipates Pope Francis’ funeral scheduled for Saturday at 10am local time (1am Pt) on Saturday. The Holy Father is then placed to rest at the Cathedral of Santa Maggiore in Rome.
Pope Francis passed away Monday evening at the age of 88 of stroke and heart failure, the Vatican said. The Fragile Pope made his final appearance at St. Peters on Sunday. There he blessed the crowd outside the square of St. Peter.
Pope Francis appointed nine auxiliary bishops to support Gomez. As of 2005, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, including Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties had a Roman Catholic population of 4.3 million. There are 288 parishes in 120 cities in the Archdiocese.
“In this period of mourning, my prayer is that all of us in the church honor Pope Francis’ legacy, remembering that he called us to an urgent task that was not yet finished.
We must continue our work in serving the poor, immigrants, and everyone forgotten in the “perior” of society.
We must be patient in creating a world that cares for our common home, the earth, respects the holiness and dignity of all human lives, and the desire of our Creators to live in peace and fraternity as human families,” Bishop Gomez announced Monday.
Friday’s Mass will be streamed live on @lacatholics and Olacathedral’s Facebook channels.
