Montana Governor urges firearms makers to throw away Colorado amid anti-gun push

First on Fox: GOP Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte is launching a video campaign reminding people that if they move only a few hundred miles north to a Colorado gun maker, they could be free from one of the nation’s most restrictive gun control bills signed into law earlier this month.

“Want to go back to America?” Gianforte asks Colorado’s cancer makers after Democratic Gov. Jared Police signed the law on SB 25-003 earlier this month. The new law, scheduled to come into effect in August 2026, effectively prohibits the manufacture, sale or purchase of semi-automatic firearms that accept separable magazines, including most AR-15s and AK-47 rifles for sale in the United States. Some tactical shotguns and some selected handguns also have an impact.

“Our second amendment is very clear. It states that the right to maintain and endure weapons is not infringed,” Gianforte told Fox News Digital. “The bill bans some of the most popular firearms used in sports and self-defense, a second violation of amendments.”

Gianforte helped to take the lead in protecting his state’s gun owners and sellers, including the passing of laws that prohibit law enforcement from enforcing federal firearm bans or regulations infringing the transfer or use of Article 2 of Americans who own, transfer or use firearms or magazines or firearm accessories.

GOP Montana Governor also led an effort to ban liberal environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards that serve as the basis for private institutions such as banks to refuse to work with gun manufacturers and sellers.

However, Giamforte pointed out its business promotion policy and relatively low tax burden, not only for the state’s defense against the state’s second amendment rights, but also for the reasons his state is ideal for law-abiding gun manufacturers and sellers.

“When is this? [Colorado bill] It came out – this announcement – I was personally called the Six Colorado Firearms Company. The five of the five I’ve spoken to so far are all planning a visit to Montana. Gianforte told Fox News Digital. The governor said he assumed from his conversation with the company that everything was “throwing Colorado towels.”

“My message to them was very simple,” he said. “Would you like to see what’s going on in Colorado? Want to go back to America? Because Montana is open for business. We welcome you here.”

Gianforte also pointed out how Montana officials attend what the governor described as the “largest” firearms and gun fair in the world.

Gianforte estimated that officials have left the competition in about 10 potential new firearms businesses that have been seriously interested in moving to Montana last year, but said this year it is close to 30.

“We have more firearms and ammunition manufacturers today than any other state in each country,” Giamforte touted. “We proudly defend our second amendment not only for firearm owners, but also for firearm and ammunition makers.”

Fox News Digital has contacted the Polis Gov. Polis office for comment.
